I’m grateful to Kyle McCord and AMRI for allowing me the opportunity to review Emilia Phillips’s terrific chapbook “Beneath the Ice Fish Like Souls Look Alike” from Bull City Press. I hope you’ll read the review and then the book! “Beneath the Ice…,” if nothing else (though it is a lot else), is a showcase for the power of detail in verse, how a skilled poet can tell a story without an overt narrative framework and its usual devices. An extremely enjoyable and satisfying read.
